This video was created in collaboration with painter Diane Burko for her solo exhibition, Seeing Climate Change in 2021 at The Katzen Art Center at American University. I filmed her paintings and combined them with images and videos she captured during her trips to Antarctica and Svalbard. She is committed to bearing witness to climate change and creating paintings and time-based media to communicate the urgency of the issue. This video is a visceral exploration of glacial ice slowly cracking, calving, and disappearing. I composed the accompanying sound piece, which evokes an unsettling feeling as the viewer watches mesmerizing abstract imagery about a very harsh reality.
